The Best Place To Start Is At The Beginning...Skin

Hello Lovelies...

So often I hear "but you have great skin" or "I have the worst skin..."

Well, the truth is my skin has always been an issue. My entire life I had dry, dehydrated skin that would flake up and make makeup a nightmare. Until I really started to watch it and figure out when and why it was throwing tantrums...

Finally after 30somethin yrs (you didn't really think I was going to tell you how old I am did you????) I have mastered my skin care routine. And without spending a fortune cause lets face facts...I would much rather spend my $$ on makeup! ;)

So here is my routine and it will work on any skin type with the tweak of what type of moisturizer and actual cleanser you use, otherwise you can follow the same guidelines...

NUMBER ONE RULE!!!!!
You MUST start with a clean face...that's right ladies NO SLEEPING WITH YOUR MAKEUP ON!!!!!!!!
If you are going to go to bed with a yucky dirty face...why bother reading the rest!!!!

(okay..I'm done yelling)

1. Find a gentle face cleanser...I use Tone Soap..that's right, that ancient Coco Butter soap that your mom used to use. Again my skin is dry, so this soap helps moisturize while it cleans. Another favorite of mine for any skin type is the Dr. Bronners Magic Soap in Peppermint...it leaves you tingly clean..like you just stepped out of the spa...

2. If you need extra help taking off your makeup get a gentle eye makeup remover I still love Cleanse Off Oil from MAC or good old baby wipes...

3. Once your face is squeeky clean apply your moisturizer to damp skin...this will help your skin soak up the moisture while your face dries...
I personally use a brightening moisturizer from a company called Obey . Yes, the annoying kiosk venders in the mall that chase you down...well, one day they got me and the rest is history...And I must say I was less than happy that I loved the product because I HATE being flagged down while I am trapsing the mall with 2 kiddies...but I LOOOOOOVE the product. Other companies that have great moisturizers...I love the Laura Mercier line, MAC makes great skin care at a great price point , and all of the Fresh and Eminence Products are fantastic.

4. Speaking of Fresh....I ABSOLUTELY LOVE Fresh's Rose Marigold Floral Water. This did wonders for my skin...I spritz my face everyday with this little bottle of love...and it smells delish...

5. and ladies we need to exfoliate....no matter what skin type you are. At least once a week to really clean off all of the muck and guck of the outside elements...
An easy exfoliator...a dime size dallop of light olive oil and sugar....just NOT in the shower...LOL

All of the above should take you about 3 mins a day...So, I don't want to hear "I have no time" I have 2 kids and a full time (plus) job and I can do it...so lets go ladies...trust me totally worth it...the very first time you hear someone say " but, you have great skin" and you start blushing you are going to be so happy and giddy...

A little bonus ...

Here is a little at home trip to the spa I treat myself to TWICE a week..(this also helps guarantee I will do the VERY important step of exfoliating...

2x's a week I close the bathroom door , shut off the lights ,Put on my favorite music, light yummy smelling candles (Oakmoss candles from Anthropology hold a special place in my heart)

I pour a glass of red and run a bubble bath as hot as my toes can handle. (this helps steam out your pores)
Then I put on Eminence Pear and Poppy Seed Microderm Polisher and soak...

When I finally emerge I feel AMAZING and recharged and, I actually gave myself a treatment no spa can match...

So, now you have no excuses...I have done the hard part for you...

Hope this helps...now, no more "but your skin" because it will be your's as well!!!

I'll b seein ya! xoxo

Taken from my Facebook page, but should really be shared...

I was recently asked to contribute my opinion of the ten top beauty mistakes and tips for brides to be for The Knot.

I was flattered for the honor, and thought I would share with you what I wrote...

Who knows, maybe you will learn a trick or two!

Here is my list for the 10 top beauty mistakes and tips...

10. Try to avoid foundations that contain an SPF. This will cause the skin to appear lighter when the flash hits. Nobody wants a bride who looks like she has just seen a ghost.

9. Avoid waxing, facials, and any other harsh treatments on the face, neck chest and arms for at least a week before the wedding. You can always pluck the few stray hairs that may appear within that time.

8. Blot Powder/ Papers are your friend. Be sure to keep your shine to a minimum. The only thing that should be sparkling on your wedding day is your smile!

7. Hydrate, Hydrate, Hydrate....and not just the day of. You should sleep in a closed room with a humidifier for the 2 weeks leading up to the wedding. Your skin will thank you for it.

6. Avoid tanning before your wedding. This means all tanning... The natural sun, spray tanning, and especially self tanning! But, if you do happen to have a bad experience with "fake and bake" bathe (and scrub lightly) in lemon juice! This will help get rid of the pretty shade of orange you have become!

5. Do not color your hair for at least a week and a half prior to your wedding day.

4. Stay away from looks that are too trendy! While teal eyeshadow makes a statement it may not be saying something you want to hear when you look back at your pictures.

3. Hide a long stemmed cotton swab in your bouquet. When you feel your self welling up at the alter, just dab the corners of your eyes with the swab to avoid makeup mess up. But, if you forget this, a damp powder puff will erase any streaks and have you picture perfect in no time.

2. Appoint a bridesmaid the job of reminding you to touch up your lipstick. Or wear a color no more than a shade darker than your natural lip. This way if there is no time for a touch up you can simply wet your lips and you have instant shine and are camera ready.

1. The number one mistakes brides make in my opinion is not being clear with their artist. Be sure to bring pictures with you to your trial. Bring pictures of things that you love, but more importantly, let them know the things you dislike! You will save yourself time and money by being clear.
